AnalysisOnline, a service of The Communications Institute, provides objective, non-partisan analysis from leading academic and research institutions on critical public issues.
For Donors
Our nation is at a critical time as it struggles to deal with a growing complexity of domestic and international issues. Consider just these topics:• Energy - The demand for energy is growing dramatically throughout the world. We are going to need all of the energy possible to meet the demands of society.
• Health Care – Health care has become an important issue to all Americans. The answers to improving health care aren’t simple and require thoughtful analysis through economics and engineering
• Risk – A large number of issues impacting society involve fear of risks to the health and safety of the public yet it’s impossible to live risk free. Just what is an acceptable risk and is the cost to society to cope with it? We have seen the use of technology such as nuclear energy halted because of public fear. Nearly every substance in the environment can harm people but its “dose that makes the poison!”
• The Economy – Economics is at the heart of the vast majority of issues that confront society but research continues to find gross public ignorance of economics. A study funded by the Ford Foundation and overseen the Institute’s leadership found that the vast majority of journalists have no background in economics. This is equally true of policy maker.

The Communications Institute is committed to bridging the “knowledge gap” in partnership with many of the nations leading academic and research institutions. These outstanding institutions have valuable information and experts who often do not reach policy makers, journalists, and other sectors of society.
Who supports the Institute?
The Communications Institute has received funds from hundreds of individuals plus core funding from foundation. The Thomas R. Brown Foundations provides core funding and jointly sponsors TCI economic education programs for example. The Institute has also received support from private enterprise, academic institutions, and media. The organization has also received funds through contracts with academic/research institutions including the Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania, University of Southern California, and the RAND Corporation.
Why do we need your support?
The Communications Institute is funded by support from foundations, individuals, and the private sector. All of our educational programs for policy makers and media are funded by foundations, media, and academic institutions.
The need for credible perspectives and knowledge on critical issues is more important than ever. Every high profile political campaign underscores the need for less political rhetoric and more solid, objective analysis. Unfortunately, simplistic answers and perspectives are provided by too many news organizations and spokespersons.
Communications Institute programs, publications, research, and Internet operations provide information for all sectors with particular emphasis on elected officials, their staff, and the news media.
Your support can help us expand the reach of our valuable programs and resources.
